One Among the Multitudes

Every person carries with them eternal worth, created in the image of God with purpose and meaning, and no surrounding crowds, however vast, can diminish the true value of that one precious soul.
Jesus Himself modeled this truth with perfection. Though He regularly ministered to large multitudes, He knew to pause for the one woman with the issue of blood to heal her, He engaged and cared deeply for a despised Zacchaeus sitting alone in a tree along the crowded way, and He touched the one leper whom society had completely rejected.
. . . all because He saw eternal worth and value in each and every life through eyes of unconditional love, favor and grace.
"If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? . . . In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish."
Matthew 18:12,14
When we as Christians focus our ministry with specificity on the one, we affirm to them that God's love is both personal and powerful. Many times, these individuals are feeling lost or swallowed up amid the "noise" of the crowds, and our act of seeing, listening and caring for that one soul becomes a living testimony of divine compassion to them.
And that one conversation, prayer or act of kindness given can ripple outward through that person's life - transforming relationships, communities and even nations. The true impact of reaching the one is immeasurable because the unseen multiplication of one life touched by love and grace can become a beacon of light for countless others.
So our calling as followers of Christ is not only ministry to the masses, but also to the one among them . . . being faithful in the small, unseen moments - trusting that God values and rejoices over that one seed planted in a single heart as much as He does over a harvest of thousands.
May God bless you in your ministry to the one and the many this holiday season.
