By: David J. Swandt, Founder and President - Twenty20 Faith
In the earliest days of the Christian faith 2,000 years ago, it rapidly grew to reach countless thousands well beyond the surrounding regions of Jerusalem where it all began. But so too did hostilities grow against it.
And chief among those hostile agitators was a man named Saul - a highly intelligent religious leader, but terribly flawed in his belief system. Thinking he was doing God a service, Saul made it his life mission to snuff out the Christian movement at all costs through fear, violence and persecutions. And by all accounts - for a time - it seemed to be working.
But God saw something different in Saul's life - something entirely irrational to those observers and victims of Saul's pursuits. It can only be explained by the following scripture:
". . . The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." I Samuel 16:7
The truth is, as "irredeemable" as Saul appeared based on his outward actions against those early Christians, God saw something extraordinary when observing Saul's inner-most person. Human observation of Saul might have said, "This threat must be eliminated, this "irredeemable" man is constraining the work of God", but God was saying, "I need to redeem this man; there is so much here that I can use to advance my work." Of course, Saul later became the Apostle Paul, and the rest is history.
And it stands true that the miraculous, redemptive work that God authored in Saul's life is the very same work He wants to do in countless lives around the world today. This is His amazing love and plan of salvation in action.
We are truly humbled and honored that God has chosen to use Twenty20 Faith for just a small part in His all-encompassing plan to redeem humanity to Himself. And we look forward to sharing more about it with you on May 4th at:
